The Annual Social Psychology Days 2014 will take place in Helsinki in the second half of November. This year, the theme of the days is Mediated Interaction. Also, as a part of the event, we are calling together a workshop. We are currently accepting presentation proposals. Welcome to present your work or to participate otherwise! Sosiaalipsykologiaa teknologisesti välittyneessä, verkottuneessa maailmassa
Uudet informaatio- ja viestintäteknologiat ovat muuttaneet tapaa, jolla ihmiset käsittelevät tietoa ja ovat vuorovaikutuksessa toistensa kanssa: Erilaisten verkkopalvelujen arkipäiväistyminen muokkaa tapojamme toimia niin yksilöinä kuin ryhminä. Työpaikoilla työtavat ja yhteistyön muodot muokkaantuvat automatisoitumisen ja työvälineiden digitalisoitumisen myötä. Eräs keskeisistä kysymyksistä, jonka teknologian kehitys asettaa sosiaalipsykologialle on, vaatiiko viestintävälineiden digitalisoituminen ja verkottuminen uusia teorioita nykypäivän vuorovaikutuksien ymmärtämiseksi. Entä miten klassisia teorioita voidaan soveltaa vuorovaikutuksen tutkimukseen teknologisesti välittyneessä maailmassa?
Toivomme tähän työryhmään empiirisiä käyttäjätutkimuksia esitteleviä ja teoreettista ajattelua eteenpäin vieviä alustuksia, joiden pohjalta työryhmä keskustelee, miten sosiaalipsykologia tieteenalana voi parhaiten pysyä mukana teknologian nopeassa kehityksessä ja säilyttää merkityksensä verkottuneessa ja digitalisoituneessa maailmassa. Työryhmä on kaksikielinen. Tämä tarkoittaa, että osallistujat saavat toimittaa abstraktinsa ja pitää esityksensä oman valintansa mukaan joko suomeksi tai englanniksi. Työryhmän keskustelukieli valitaan paikan päällä osallistujien tarpeet ja toiveet huomioiden.
Ehdotukset esityksestä työryhmässä (max. 400 sanan abstrakti) lähetetään osoitteeseen airi.lampinen(at)iki.fi 17.10.mennessä. Työryhmään valitsemisesta ilmoitetaan noin viikossa deadlinen jälkeen.
Social psychology in a technologically mediated, networked world
Novel information and communication technologies have changed the ways in which people interact with one another and to manage information: The ubiquitous presence of varied web services shapes our behavior both as individuals and as groups. At workplaces work practices and modes of interaction are shaped by the automatisation and the digitalisation of tools. The rapid development of technology poses important questions for social psychology: Does the digitalisation of communication technology and the presence networked services necessitate novel theories for understanding contemporary social interaction? How can the classical theories be applied to the study of technology-mediated social interaction in a networked world?
This workshop welcomes presentations entailing empirical user studies and/or non-empirical theory building. Based on the presentations, the workshop will discuss how social psychology as a field can best keep up with the rapid development of technology and how it can retain its relevance in a networked and digitalized world. This is a bilingual workshop. This means that participants can submit their abstracts and give their presentations in either Finnish or English (whichever they prefer). The language of general discussion in the workshop will be determined on the spot to match the needs and wishes of the participants.
Proposals for a presentation in the workshop (max. 400-word abstract) are to be submitted via e-mail to airi.lampinen(at)iki.fi by October, 17th. Notification of acceptance to the workshop will be given within approximately a week of the deadline.
